Norma Dean Smith

Norma Dean “Deaner” Read Smith, 83, of Levelland passed away August 13, 2015. Family visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, August 14, 2015, at the George Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Fifth Street Baptist Church in Levelland, with burial to follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery. Norma was born June 12, 1932 in Whiteface, Texas to H.D. “Preacher” and Lura Read. She attended Whiteface schools. She married Floyd Smith on December 20, 1949 and they were married for 65 ½ years. Norma worked 23 years for the Levelland Independent School District as a cafeteria manager. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family. Norma is survived by her husband, Floyd of Levelland; daughters, Sue Edwards and Nancy (Frank) Swain all of Level-and; son, Bobby (Sabrina) Smith of Midland, brother, Dale (Jenny) Read of Levelland; grandchildren, Jason (Danielle) Edwards, Matt (Abi) Swain, Michael Swain, and Melissa (Jeff) Young; and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Swain, Alexandra and Samantha Young, Jadan Edwards, Zachary , Jacob and Mason Swain; and she was well loved by many nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Jeanette Dutton, Doris McCoy and Margaret Crank; and brother Don Read. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials honoring Norma be made to the American Heart Association.
