

Annie E. McGrath Annie E. McGrath, "Nancy" passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. She was 85. Nancy emigrated from her birth home, Louisburgh, County Mayo, in 1949 at the age of 19,coming alone and full of hope to Ellis Island. She settled in Upper Darby and worked as a nanny for several families on the Main Line. She met John "Jack" McGrath at an Upper Darby Irish dance and on February 20, 1954 they married at Saint Lawrence Church in Drexel Hill. They lived in Saint Columba's Parish in North Philadelphia before moving to Levittown in 1967. There she was a devoted member of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish for nearly 50 years. Nancy lived through many struggles as she ventured from Ireland, her birth home, to a new life and a hopeful future. Her capacity to overcome and succeed, as well as her loving nature, were blessings to her and her family as well as to many dear friends. Her deep faith and good humor, always delivered in her charming Irish brogue, will be cherished. Beloved wife of the late John P. McGrath and loving mother of Ann Petroziello (Guy) of Yardley, John M. (Marianne) of Fairfax, VA, William (Kathleen) of West Chester, Mary Theresa Madrack (Joseph) of Trevose and Catherine B. Hoffman of Levittown. Nancy is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her sisters Agatha Fox and Eileen Gaffney of County Mayo, Ireland and Mary Meade of Dublin, Ireland. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Annie O'Malley Gaffney, a son James M. McGrath and a daughter Claire L. McGrath. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, from 6:00 untill 8:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. Friends may also call on Thursday, from 9:00 until 10:00 am at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown, PA 19054, where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. The Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. McGrath's name may be made to Saint Michael the Archangel church at the above address.
