5 January, 1932 – 17 April, 2023
IN THE CARE OF

James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc.

Barbara G. Davis

Our family said goodbye to our beloved mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother on April 17, 2023.

Barbara passed away at the age of 91 with her daughters by her side She was predeceased by her husband of almost 67 years, Richard H. Davis. Surviving Barbara is her daughter Barbara Pears of Mechanicsburg, PA and her daughter Ann Custer and husband Keith of Fairless Hills, PA as well as five grandchildren, Kristen Wright and husband Kevin of Orlando, FL, Seth Custer and wife Julienne of Fairless Hills, Ryan Pears of Brooklyn, NY, Lauren Szczesny and husband Tom of Littleton, CO and Talon Custer and wife Rachel of Newtown. She was affectionately called Great-Gigi by her nine great-grandchildren, Shane, Grayson, and Bella Wright, Cailin and Klara Custer, Sienna and Landon Custer, and Eleanor and Andersyn Szczesny who loved her dearly.

Barbara retired from the Bensalem Christian Day School as a preschool teacher. She was involved in the education field for more than thirty years. Her favorite age group was three and four-year-olds even though her bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg State Teachers College was in elementary education. She loved preparing her students for kindergarten and organized the music program at Bensalem Christian Day School so they could be enriched in the arts as well. She served on the Steeple Kids Board of Directors and shared her expertise. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years.

Music played an important role in Barbara’s life. She was an accomplished piano and organ player and had a beautiful soprano singing voice. Along with her husband, she sang with their church choir and the Pennsbury Community Chorus for many years. She passed this love of music to her children and grandchildren and encouraged them to sing or play an instrument.

Barbara LOVED the color purple, everything chocolate, board and card games (bridge in particular), puzzles and crossword puzzles, nurturing decades-long friendships, caring for neighbors, decorating her home for every holiday, her church, concerts, painting ceramic pieces to share with loved ones and baking her famous pumpkin cookies for family and friends. She provided a loving home for her children with lots of family traditions which have been passed down for generations. A favorite of her great-grandchildren is the annual Easter egg hunt.

The family will gather and celebrate Barbara’s life in a private memorial service and then she and her beloved husband will be laid to rest at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery with full honors, as Richard was a Korean War Veteran.
