Clara Guidotti Clara (Denault) Guidotti received her wings on January 23, 2012. She was born to the late Joseph and Adelia (Paquin) Denault on December 9, 1918. Clara was the youngest of five children, Roseanne McShane LaClair, Joseph, Parmelia Victoria and Adelard all of whom preceded her in death. After the passing of both of her parents, Clara was raised by the Sisters of Mercy in Providence, RI, where she graduated with an 8th grade education in 1934. Clara worked for a cotton mill. While walking home from work, she was approached by a man asking, '"Where are you going?" Her reply was, "On my way home from the mill". The man replied, "Well, you are way too pretty to be working there. You will come to the Biltimore Hotel in Providence, RI and work for me." There, she was one the famous "Bacchante Girls , known throughout the country, for their beauty and poise where she waited on famous actors such as Cary Grant, Bob Hope, and Omar Sharif. Later she would work at Al's Restaurant. There, she met her late husband Albert Guidotti, during WWll. They only had five dates their entire courtship, one being bowling. He then proposed to her and went back to fight the war. After being injured, Albert was sent to a St. Albans, NY military hospital. Clara of course told her boss of the situation and was told, If you leave you wont have a job when you return . She traveled to New York by train and arrived to see him. Albert said you can keep the ring, but not what it stands for . She was devastated. Albert spent many months in the hospital with Clara by his side. He eventually recuperated and they were married in May of 1948. They were happily married for 50 years before his passing. On their honeymoon Clara told Albert she wanted 12 children. They were blessed with nine. Albert Guidotti (wife, Nancy and son Chris), Mary Barbera (husband, Jim and their children Seon, Tyler and Heather), her late daughter Anita Holcomb (husband, Tom and their children Tom Jr., Danny, Chrissy, Scott and David), Flora Guidotti (daughter Julia), Diane Guidotti, Peter Guidotti (wife, Gayle and their children Ambur, Peter J., and Nicholas), Joseph Guidotti (his children Christopher, Danielle, Michelle and Anthony), Marie Drogalis (husband, John and their children John, James, Jennifer and Jessica), Theresa Guidotti-Lamina (late husband , Joseph). Clara received her drivers license at the age of 52, her GED at 70 , and she continued playing the piano into her 90's. She spent her life volunteering for the Easter Seals, and the Queen of the Universe Regina Guild where she was in numerous plays. Clara was a member of the Queen of the Universe Church choir until she was 90. She enjoyed the Senior Citizen Center and singing with the Middletown Senior Citizen Chorus. She enjoyed painting, baking homemade bread and canning and was a very talented seamstress. Clara traveled to Italy to see Pope Benedict XVI at the young age of 89. This was one of the highlights of her life. Clara was devoted to her family and her church, and said she would love to be remembered as a "Good Mother." She would often say, "This is what I was born to do." Her most memorable quote was "If you ever have a problem, talk to the "Man Upstairs", He will always listen." Clara always said , she wanted to live until she was 90 years old. The "Man Upstairs" made it happen for her and then some. Rest in peace Mom. Say hi to Dad, Anita, Hoagie Joe, Marty and Aunt Rose.
