

Gladys was a woman of great strength, who loved every person she encountered and never turned down an invitation for fun!
Born in Langhorne, PA, Mrs. Dougherty has been a lifelong resident of Lower Bucks County and attended Langhorne High School. She had childhood Polio, Hospitalized at Shriners Hospital for Children for two (2) years. She was wheelchair bound through High School. Only through innovative therapeutic treatment sessions at Shriners Hospital was she able to walk again. After graduation she worked for Bell Telephone, Philadelphia as a draftswoman. One of her more interesting assignments was laying out the telephone lines for Levittown, PA. Discussing plans for the new development with her husband Joseph, they became one of the first Levittown residents. She became a stay-at-home mom until her five children (5) were in school. Upon re-entering the workforce, she became Distribution Manager for a newly formed publication, the Piggyback Shopper. Next, she worked for Sears Roebuck & Co., Catalog Sales Division where she was promoted to Supervisor of 35 women. She moved on to work at Sears Abbington, PA to begin her new career as an interior designer for custom drapes and upholstery. She later transferred to Sears Quakerbridge, NJ. She won numerous sales achievement awards.
Gladys was a member of the Red Hat Society and was a former member of Queen of the Universe parish for 45 years. She was currently a member of St. Ephrem parish.
Mrs. Dougherty loved a lifetime of going to the Jersey Shore and spent summers in Cape May Courthouse. She enjoyed attending all entertainment events at Juniper Village, Bensalem, PA where she resided for the past 19 years.
Beloved wife of the late Joseph H. Dougherty, Mrs. Dougherty was the loving mother of Joseph H. Dougherty (Holly), Michael E. Dougherty (Valentina), Kathleen E. Carroll (Daniel), Marianne L. Dalton (Fred) and Patricia Mae Thomas (Mark).
She was the devoted grandmother of 15 grandchildren, Jesse, Blair, Devin, Michael, Lauren, Lindsay, Sarah, Colleen, Patrick, Julianne, Kellianne, Leeanne, Megan, Kevin, and Paige and great grandmother of 14. Gladys is also survived by her sister, Sally Ann Naklicki (David) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Hall and Ethel Amisson McCarthy, her sister, Nancy Quinlan (Bud) and her aunt and uncle, Mildred and Ellsworth (Zip) Zimmerman and Gladys and Damon (Jobby) Jobson.
Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 22nd at St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
