

James J. Cahill, Jr.James J. Cahill, Jr., 90, of Levittown, died peacefully at his daughter's home in Levittown on Saturday, September 30th, 2017.He was born in Germantown and was one of two sons of James J. Cahill, Sr. and Antoinette (Lehman) Cahill. He is preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Cahill and his half-sister, Patricia Ann Cahill.He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Catherine Cahill, three daughters: Jeanne Hill (Richard), Linwood, NJ, Joyce Angelini (Thomas) Newtown, PA and Marie Cahill-McElroy (Robert) of Levittown, PA; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four granddogs who he adored.James enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 at the age of seventeen and saw combat action in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He served aboard the Escort Aircraft Carrier USS Gilbert Islands in the campaigns for Okinawa, Balikpapan, Borneo and the occupation of Japan. A chief personnelman, he was the leading Chief of the Active Duty Personnel Office at the Naval Air Station Willow Grove. Veteran Navy Chief James J. Cahill, Jr. retired in January, 1965 from the United States Navy after twenty years of active duty.An avid baseball player, Personnelman First Class Cahill managed the Naval Air Station Willow Grove softball team and was primarily responsible for molding the Championship team that won the Bux-Mont League in 1957.Following his retirement from the US Navy, he continued his expertise in personnel management and business administration with companies such as: Pride Cleaning and Laundry Services, Hancock Gross (Stanley Hardware), Edmund Scientific, Creative Playthings, Lenape Products, and The Mega Group, from which he retired in 1992.Jim enjoyed woodworking, clock-making, cooking, gardening and regular jaunts to Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst. He was an avid baseball, football and basketball fan and enjoyed listening to classical music. All who knew Jim relied on him for his wealth of knowledge, his advice and his viewpoints about life. He had incredible strength of character and was respected by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his family, former colleagues and friends.Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 8:00 until 9:30 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am at Queen of the Universe Church, Levittown, followed by the Rite of Committal at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
