Joan Mae (Duenger) Richardson passed away on June 6, 2014 at The Brunswick at Attleboro in Langhorne. She was 83. Born in Berwick, PA, Joan attended West Chester University before marrying John Richardson Jr. in 1952. They moved to Levittown in 1955 where they were one of the original residents in Plumbridge. Joan taught third grade for a year, then spent 40 years as a first grade teacher at the Samuel Everitt Elementary School in the Neshaminy School District. She often joked that she never got out of the first grade! After she retired, she became a supervisor of student teachers through La Salle University. Joan was active in her church community at First Presbyterian Church in Levittown. She enjoyed traveling, reading and needlework. As her health failed, Joan continued her participation in these activities as a member of the Attleboro retirement communities where she easily made many friends. Joan was a loving and kind woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband John Richardson Jr., her sister Margaret, and her parents Joseph Row and Katherine Mae (Ringrose) Duenger. Joan is survived by her daughter Lynn K. Richardson (Jay E. Brant) of East Lansing, MI; her son Rexford J. Richardson (Maureen) of Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Lauren Marie (Richardson) deOliveria and Kenneth J. Richardson; and two great grandchildren, Cole and Lacey. She also is survived by her sister Katherine (Duenger) Rudis of Clarks Summit, PA and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the country. Family and friends are invited to call Monday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. All are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Levittown, 5918 Emilie Rd., Levittown. A private interment will be held at Valley View Cemetery in Jermyn, PA. There will be no calling hours on Tuesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to the First Presbyterian Church of Levittown or a charity of the donor's choice.
