Born on July 27, 1961 to the late Marjorie McCoy Gregory and John Doryk, Tom spent his early life in Lambertville, New Jersey and was a graduate of South Hunterdon High School. Strong willed and stubborn at times, Tom was a distinguished veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and recently retired from a successful career in the Elevator Constructors Union No. 1 of New York City. His voice, often the loudest in the room, was coupled with a laugh that was one of a kind. His heart was enormous and filled with love for his family and friends. He was impossibly proud of their accomplishments, especially his son Tommy, who followed his footsteps into the Elevator trade.
Tom was a builder. He was known for starting way too many projects at once and occasionally finishing some of them. He created his own outdoor oasis at his home with a pool adorned with tropical plants, including the banana trees that he took great pride in. Afternoons at the pool with Big Tom were filled with laughter, music and understanding, and his kind heart and compassion made his backyard a refuge from the banalities of life.
Tom is survived by his son, Tommy “Little T” and his future wife, Elena. Tommy was the light of Tom’s life. The sun rose and set on the love and pride he had for his son. His daughters, who came into his life in 1987: Amanda Sciolla (Frank), Jessica Schindewolf (Dylan), and Nicole Tomasulo (Matt), Sister: Barb Swantko (Dave), Grandchildren: Ava, Dante, Michael, Mila, and Lincoln, Nieces: Cameron and Danielle Swantko, and Madison Ventigli. And of course, his grandpuppies Izzy and Ben.
