

Wallace F."Wally" Stack, 89, of Levittown passed away on February 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris; his children Wayne Stack (Joanna), Diane Binck, David Stack, Terri Mueller (Paul) and Helene Gordon (John); his grandchildren David (Alyssa), Matthew (Marissa), Joseph (Emily), Peter and Grace Binck; Austin, Marielle and Travis Mueller; Zachary, Jacob, Alexander, Thomas and Christopher (Amber) Gordon; Marilee Horn and Kira Clapp; his great grandchildren Aiden and Kaylynn Clapp; his sister Rosanne Wood and many nieces and nephews.Born and raised in Taunton, MA, Wally was the son of the late John & Mary (Silva) Stack. He was preceded in death by brother John Stack and sister Frances Benjamin.Wally's interest in the military began as Cadet of the Year at Taunton High School and he entered the Army upon graduation. He became a Staff Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne and was a Ranger and Paratroop Instructor. He was a Master Parachutist with just under 600 career jumps. Wally also participated in stunt jumping for several years and earned his pilot's license when he was 19.Wally was an accomplished athlete. He played football for the 11th Airborne Div. and received an honorable mention on the 'All Japan' All Star team. Wally played halfback and end for the 82nd Airborne Div. Twice he was chosen for the All-Army Team. He played for the New England Semi-Pro league in 1952 -1953 receiving the MVP award in 1953. He also played under ex-Philadelphia Eagle Steve VanBuren for St. Ann's of Bristol.Wally was a resident of Levittown and a parishioner of Queen of the Universe parish for 62 years. Over the years, he coached football, baseball, softball and track. He also was active as an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. Wally played in a softball league until the age of 50 on a team made up of men he had coached as boys.He was employed at US Steel as a draftsman in 1952. He worked as a mechanical engineer and ultimately retired as Superintendent of Engineering and Maintenance East Coast Division. After retiring, Wally started work as a Wire Rope Bridge Inspector and Consultant. He climbed numerous bridges throughout the US including the Ben Franklin bridge in Philadelphia. He officially retired from bridge inspection at the age of 80. Wally was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go hiking and camping and he backpacked much of the Appalachian Trail. One of his greatest joys was to go camping with his family and teach his grandchildren about the woods and being in nature. Family meant everything to Wally and he cherished the family vacations spent at the Outer Banks, in the Pocono Mountains and camping. He has been a great inspiration to his children and grandchildren. He is loved and will be greatly missed.Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21 at Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 2443 Trenton Rd., Levittown where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Washington's Crossing National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Wally's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
