Grief is non-linear.
There is no time frame.
There is no set path.
There is no running away from the emotions- 
only through them. 

It doesn't go away,
it is forever,
it becomes part of you, step for step,
breath for breath.

It is like the ocean, deep, dark, and bigger than all of us.
The pain is like a thief in the night. 
Quiet, unfair, persistent.
BUT with FAITH, LOVE and TIME the pain will soften.
For now, we don't have to be strong all the day.  
Sometimes you just need to be alone and let your tears speak.

The shock is too great, our minds protect us by only allowing the reality to seep in slowly, over time, as much loss as we can manage in that moment.

Dear Lori and Dineen Family, 
I met Brian when we were 16 years old and studying for the SATs together in Portland, ME (while he was home on vacation from boarding school). We were kindred spirits and remain in touch for many years. I deeply valued my friendship with Brian and am grateful to read the many ways he has impacted other’s lives. 

I thought of of him just yesterday as I was touring Salisbury with my son. It was very meaningful to see Brian’s name listed as the captain of the hockey team in the Salisbury gym. I am sorry to learn of his loss and grateful for the wonderful memories I have of him in his youth. All the best to Lori and Brian’s extended family.

A year feels like a minute 
& simultaneously feels like forever. 

I just googled Brian to find a new number as I thought his number changed and knew how he could be. I wanted to get in touch with him again and share some good news . Brian literally saved my life, as I was hiding the demons I was fighting.  I reached out for help and he was there to hold my hand while I fought. He shared tools and truths I needed to hear. I was deeply saddened hearing of your loss and wish Brian's family my deepest condolences.  Brian was amazing guy . I wish you all peace and comfort.

I️ am shocked and heartbroken to learn of Brian’s passing.  Brian was my therapist and friend for four years. He was one of the funniest and most intelligent people I’ve ever met. We shared a dark and dry sense of humor, as well as similar views of the world and how it works. Brian helped me through two of the most difficult periods in my life. The lessons he taught me and the impression he left on me will last forever. I️ truly found a kindred spirit in Brian and feel lucky to have known him. He is wholly responsible for my personal growth and the healthy life I️ am living today. He was a great person who will be remembered fondly as long as I️ live. 

As a dog lover I️ formed a bond with Seamus and always looked forward to my visits with Brian and Seamus. He is such a sweet and handsome boy.  Before Seamus, I️ would bring my dog Rudy to Brian’s office and Rudy instantly bonded with Brian, recognizing him as a dog lover and good person. Rudy passed in January and Brian spent 4 hours with me  one afternoon helping me grieve.

Brian helped our son out a lot!  Great listener who could get him to open up and improved his life.  What a loss.  He was a great therapist.

Brian was my best friend and also my therapist, but by far a friend first.   I am thankful this man came into my life as he probably saved it.  He always had time for me and was a great listener and most of a role model for me.   My ambition was to be half the man he was,  always kind and thoughtful.    Brian always checked in on me in between appointments and it made me feel so good.   I was very lucky I found him and very very sad he is gone,  I miss him so much. 😢  My deepest condolences to Lori and the rest of Brian's family.   Thank you for sharing him with those of us that needed and loved him

Brian was a tremendous man and a great help to myself these last 4 years. He came into my life during one of my darkest hours and worked with me to be able to believe in myself, once again.  I learned a great deal from him.  He will be missed, I will never forget him.

I will feel forever indebted to Brian for his endless support, encouragement and understanding.  He has taught me so much in the time that I have known him.

He was my therapist. Always there for me and helping me to make the right decisions and helping me understand how to deal with them on my own. He was a really easy person to talk to, and I truly saw him as a friend.

I have peace knowing that your impact On how I have “grown myself back up” will always remain a part of who I am today - For this Brian I am eternally grateful.  So thank you Sir Brian for your unconditional kindness, compassion and honesty.; The sharing of your Seamus, who I equally adored; your extremely dry sense of humor that we both shared, and the ability see the beauty in all that is around us, even in the midst of turmoil. You will be forever missed by this growing human.  I am confident to say that I am a better person for having known you-

Brian, my therapist but also my friend. Brian taught me how to be kind to myself when that seemed like the most impossible thing. Brian also taught me how to find my voice and use it. He helped me through so much and I wish I had the chance to thank him for all he has done for me as a growing human. 

Brian had a heart made of unconditional love for his fellow humans.  I will deeply miss him & the Doctor of Joyology (his dog Seamus).  Brian’s impact in my life, and my daughter’s life, will be felt and remembered forever.  He made sure I not only was told that I was worthy of living a fulfilling and happy/healthy life, he made sure I knew it deep down.  Brian ushered me through the toughest time in my life and gave me the tools to survive something we were not built to endure, set boundaries, & put it all in healthy perspective.  He helped me to have insight into how to best be there for my daughter despite the situation. He was one of a kind.  I was blessed to know him, and this loss cuts deep.  Please know we send our deepest condolences to his family. 

I am so sorry to hear of Brian’s passing, I have too many great memories to share, played hockey with him for years, haven’t seen him in years, but I always considered him a friend, anytime I did see him that smirk would come over his face, never had a bad thing to say to me, and he had a great heart. I will miss him

Brian was easily one of the kindest and most warm-hearted people I have ever met.  I am forever grateful to have known him (and Seamus)these past few years.
