Carol B. Smith

She was born in Lewiston, Maine on December 12, 1942 the daughter of John and Ethel (Robinson) Bommattei both of Auburn. Carol was brought up in the Auburn School District. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1961, and was married to her husband Harold of 52 years on August 18, 1962.

She was employed by H.P. Hoods and attended Mid State College after graduating high school. In the late 1960’s, Carol worked as a clerk at Flanders Clothing Store.

Carol had three sons, Eric, Gary and Michael, whom she stayed at home to raise. In 1978 Carol went back to work and managed the So Fro Fabric store in the Lewiston Mall. She then worked for the Este Lauder line at Porteous in the Auburn Mall. In the Fall of 1987, Carol went to work as an administrative assistant for the Lewiston High School. She thoroughly enjoyed working for all of the Principals, including but not limited to Mr. Roger Lachapelle, Dr. Edward Dyer, Mr. John Bouchles, Mr. Rick Sykes, Dr. Pat O’Neil and Mr. Gus Leblanc. Carol retired from Lewiston High School in 2008. Carol was an excellent cook; her chocolate chip cookies were second to none. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, reading and spending time with her grandchildren, cat Milo and her grand dogs Otis and George. Carol is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harold R. Smith of Auburn; three sons Eric Smith and his wife Gina D’Avignon of Auburn, Gary Smith of Auburn and Michael Smith of Turner; her sister Karen Johnson and her husband Daryl of Wales; her three grandchildren Jenna Hoxie-Smith, Lianne Hoxie-Smith of Cornish and Josh Smith of Auburn.

A Memorial Service honoring Carol’s life will be held on Saturday November 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 PM till the time of the service. Committal services will be held on Saturday December 6, 2014 at 9:00 AM at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
