Don Edward Seibert

Don was born on January 18, 1947, in Bryan, Texas to Casper Louis Seibert and Annie Gussie (Kaiser) Seibert. He was the second of four children and attended Caldwell High School until graduation in 1965.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Glenn, and his brother-in-law, Billy Kornegay. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joan Cote Seibert of Lewiston, Maine, his son James Casper Seibert and daughter-in-law Christina; Michelle Lombardo and her husband Steve, Thomas Kerrigan and his wife Gemma, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Josephine Seibert, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Sam Scarmardo, and his sister Judy Kornegay as well as his nephews and nieces.

Don proudly served in the Navy. He was stationed in many places but especially enjoyed being in Sicily where he was able to do a lot of travel throughout Europe. He especially enjoyed flying in the plane with his Navy buddies. Don’s last station was Brunswick, which brought him to Maine and ultimately Lewiston which became his permanent home. We have all heard many stories about all his time spent in the Navy.

Don spent his life living every moment fully. He loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. He was a licensed plumber but spent most of his years working at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter and designer. He opened D&J’s Texas Style BBQ in the early fall of 2004 with his son, Thomas. Don and Joan spent many years serving the people of Lewiston and surrounding towns really wonderful BBQ until retiring in 2015.

Don’s favorite past time was being with his family. Holidays meant a house packed with much laughter and love. He had a great love for his wife, Joan, and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to travel; St. Marteen was a favorite trip; he and Joan went yearly. He was so happy that he and Joan were able to make a 2-week trip to Alaska, doing both the inside passage as well as the full land trip. Don and Joan also loved coming home to Texas to check in with family and friends. He was proud to show off his state to Joan and upon arrival, was always received with much love and excitement. While in Texas he tried to connect with absolutely everyone, visiting, calling, and driving around to see old sights and paying respect to friends who had passed before him. Don loved Texas. And Texas loved him back in return.

There will be a time to gather on Monday, January 27, from 9 - 10:30 AM at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 122 Ash Street, Lewiston, with Father Daniel Greenleaf celebrating. Committal Prayers will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner Street, Auburn, Maine.
