Norway, ME - Gregory "Moose" James Stauffer, of Otisfield, ME, beloved by many for his honesty, humor, hard work, kind heart, and wisdom, passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on July 22, 1959, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Moose grew up in Millersville, Pennsylvania, attending local area schools and graduating from Penn Manor in 1977. During his school years, he was an enthusiastic athlete, participating in football, heavyweight wrestling, and track and field, specializing in shot-put.
Moose dedicated the majority of his professional career to the bookbinding industry, chiefly working for Lancaster Press in Pennsylvania before relocating to Maine in 1995. In Maine, he continued his career at Penmor in Lewiston until his retirement in 2016 due to illness. In addition to his work, Moose had a love for music, playing the bassoon and the clarinet.
In 1992, Moose married Lynn Fisher and shortly after, their only child was born. Although the marriage ended in 1998, Moose remained a devoted father. He cherished his family deeply and leaves behind his father, James W. Stauffer Jr., and his son, Gregory L. Stauffer. He is also survived by his sister, Julie E. Swade (Scott), and his niece, Selena A. Troop (Craig). Moose was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen (Doty) Stauffer, and brother, David J. Stauffer.
A man of many passions, Moose found joy in clamming, fishing, vegetable gardening, and maintaining what he affectionately called the "Otisfield Golf Course." Moose relished spending time outdoors, whether mowing his lawn or enjoying dirt biking.
Moose's family extends heartfelt thanks to the McLain family for a lifetime of friendship and cherished memories. They also express their deep gratitude to the staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at The Fortin & Pinette Group, located at 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston, ME. The visitation will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 3 - 5 pm, where everyone who knew Moose is welcome to honor his memory in a humorous and lighthearted spirit, just as he would have wanted.
