James Howard Greene Jr.

1943 - 2017

Lewiston, Maine - James "Jim" Howard Greene Jr., 74, of Ash Street passed away at the Central Maine Medical Center on August 23, 2017, with his family at his side. Jim was born in Malden MA on February 4, 1943 and spent his youth in Reading. The son of the late James H. Sr. and Katherine O'Connor Greene, he graduated from Reading High School class of 1961 and went on to proudly serve in the United States Air Force before attending the University of Mass at Amherst. Jim worked for the Boston Public Library for over 35 years and was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge who taught himself to read Russian, Hebrew and Chinese. He loved reading, movies, and all types of music, and spent his leisure time studying and discussing many religions, philosophies, languages, and other things that fascinated him. He was a longtime resident of Cambridge MA., before retiring and moving to Lewiston, in 2003, where he was a member of the local Elks club and the Carlton Club, and had become a well-known member of the community. Jim is survived by a son, Sean Greene and his wife Lisa, of Peabody, MA, by two granddaughters Julia Greene and Kayla Grove, and by a sister, Lois Whalen of Westboro, MA, who will all miss him immensely.
