

LEWISTON - Laurier R. Mathieu, 72, a resident of Lewiston died Thursday morning at Central Maine Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Lewiston, May 3, 1936, the son of Noel and Dolores (Desfosses) Mathieu. He was a graduate of Lewiston schools and was both a United States Army veteran as well as United States Marine Corps veteran serving in the mid 1950’s. He was married to the love of his life the former Doris Robitaille on August 17, 1959. He was a devout Catholic and member of Holy Cross Church, Knights of Columbus Council #106, a board member of the Franco-American Collection at University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn Campus, as well as a member of the Pastime Club where he enjoyed many hours of playing cribbage. Mr. Mathieu’s career included both the Lewiston Fire Department as well as Lewiston Brass Works and Foundry. He retired from the Lewiston Fire Department after 24 years as Lieutenant and then retired following 30 years with Lewiston Brass Works and Foundry. Following retirement he worked part time as a groundskeeper for L/A College, and enjoyed spending family time at their camp on Dexter Pond, and also family barbecues and sunny days with his family at Harpswell. Evening time at the Mathieu home included family and friends around their outdoor fireplace. He was also an avid motorcyclist traveling many miles with family and friends. Survivors; include three sons, Gerald Mathieu and his wife, Lisa of Monmouth; Victor Mathieu and his wife, Celeste of Greene; and Roger Mathieu and his wife Teresa of Stillwater, MN; two daughters, Joline Nash of Lewiston and Julie Hendricks and her husband, Shane of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Andy Mathieu and his wife Zita of Lewiston; three sisters, Cecile Dumont and her husband, Roger of Rochester, NH; Pauline Mathieu of Harpswell; and Julie Beaulieu and her husband, Richard of Harpswell.; seven grandchildren; Regina Nash, Melissa, Ryan, Brian, and Samuel Mathieu as well as Trinity and Ian Hendricks. Also surviving are many in-laws from the Robitaille Family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Doris on April 10, 1991. MATHIEU died in Lewiston, June 19, 2008, Mr. Laurier R. Mathieu age 72 years a resident of Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Laurier’s life will be held MONDAY 11:00AM at Holy Cross Church.
