

BRUNSWICK - Mary Eleanor Chaplin (69) of Brunswick, Maine, left to be in God's presence Wednesday, January 13th 2010. She was born in Lewiston, Maine to John Chaplin and Florence (Vaughan) Chaplin.Eleanor grew up Falmouth Foreside, Maine where she graduated with honors from Falmouth High School in 1958. When she was a teen, her family enjoyed seeing her on TV as a frequent guest on the Dave Astor Show. Eleanor received her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in French from Tufts University in 1962. While there, Eleanor was on the Dean's List and a member of the Prix d'Honneur Society. Eleanor went on to study Psychology at Framingham State University, where she earned her Master of Arts in 1988. During her studies, she especially enjoyed her time working at Mclean Hospital. She went on to work with seniors and volunteered her time counseling unwed pregnant teens.Eleanor had a gift with crafts and anything that could be done by hand such as quilting, needlepoint, and furniture refinishing. Our homes still display many of these items, which she freely gave away. Eleanor’s hobbies also included writing, and reading, and in earlier days, tennis, horseback riding, and singing with the Wellesley Choral Society (MA). Eleanor will be dearly missed by her daughters Margaret King (Tim, Carrie, Abbie), Kelly Cochrane (Sam), and Laura Nevin (Rob, Jason, Kristin, Caleigh), as well as many other beloved family members—especially treasured Auntie Barbara Goff, and sister Elizabeth Bolton. She will also be missed by her many friends – including neighbors at Creekside Manor, her fellow writers from her writing group ‘Write On’, and her childhood friends from Falmouth High School.A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial honoring Eleanor's life will be celebrated 11am on Saturday, January 23rd, at St. John the Baptist Church,39 Pleasant Street in Brunswick, Maine.
