

Auburn - Maurice Daigle 86, of Schooner Estates and formerly of 149 Oak Street, Lewiston died Saturday July 9, 2011 at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice with his family by his side. Born in Fort Kent, February 15, 1925 a son of the late Omer and Eva Dumond Daigle. He was educated in Fort Kent schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Division and was a prisoner of war in Germany until his release on November 5, 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Silver Star Honorable Service Medal. He was married May 3, 1943 to the former Yvette Vermette. She died May 8, 2008. He and his wife owned and operated a grocery store and later started Maurice Daigle Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1986.Mr. Daigle was a member of The Prince of Peace Parish at The Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council 106 Lewiston and American Legion Post 22 of Lewiston. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, camping and spending time in Rangeley. He loved to spend time with his family, and traveling with his beloved wife Yvette. Maurice will be remembered as a caring and generous man to his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Paradis and husband Raymond of Glendale, AZ, Claudette S. Heutz and husband Normand of Lewiston, his son Ronald R. Daigle and wife Carmelle of Lewiston, 9 grandchildren and their spouses, Kenneth and Bev Paradis, Raeann and Dino Krallis, Greg and Monica Paradis,Michelle and Chad Alexander, Scott Paradis, John and Kelly Heutz, Sandra Heutz-Lee and Mark Lee, Steven and Shannon Daigle, Thomas and Nicole Daigle, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Priscilla Viens and husband Fernand of Bristol CT, Alice Vaillancourt and husband Gerard of Lewiston, Marilyn Gagnon and husband Armand of Lewiston,4 brothers, Reynolds and his wife Claire Daigle of Enfield, CT Vernon Daigle of Lewiston, Lawrence and his wife Anita Daigle of Auburn, Albert and his wife Flo of Rumney, NH, two sisters-in-law Rose Daigle of Worcester, MA. Romelle Daigle of Windsor Locks, CT. He was also predeceased by his sister Pauline Gagnon, and his brothers Normand, Donald and Stanley Daigle.
