Nancy York

Nancy was born in Lewiston on January 18, 1958 to Esther and Edward O’Connell. She grew up in Lewiston with her brother Gary O'Connell and sister Sandra (O’Connell) Fournier. Nancy attended Lewiston High School and Bedard’s Hair School. She began her career as a hairdresser in the Lewiston/ Auburn community, but then transitioned to work in the mental health field. She served for over 30 years as a mental health crisis worker, an accomplishment Nancy was particularly proud of.

The accomplishment that made Nancy the proudest was earning the title of “Mame”. Nancy was the proud grandmother of eight wonderful grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than seeing her “babies”.

Nancy lived life on her own terms and possessed a spunk and stubbornness that was unmatched. Those qualities and her legacy will live on through her four children, their spouses, and her grandchildren: Chris Bickford, wife Michelle Bickford, and children Aaliyah and Kaylee Bickford; Sarah Armontrout, husband David Armontrout, and children Kristopher and Skyler Giggey; Eric Fitzgerald and partner Mike Staples; Aaron Fitzgerald, wife Katelynn Fitzgerald, and children Evan, Serenity, Joshua, and Faith Fitzgerald.

Nancy is also survived by her sister Sandra Fournier and husband Normand Fournier of Lewiston.

Nancy’s family is certain she was welcomed home to Lord by her dear friends Kathy Jordan and Peter Kelley who passed before her as well as her mother, father, and brother.

Nancy’s service will be on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11am at Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Nancy’s family just asks that you tell your loved ones how much you love them.

As Nancy would say, “I love you more.”
