My memories of Nels go way back to the Bradlees days in North Windham.  He was a great guy and manager.  I can see that smile and hear his laugh just like it was yesterday.  Karen & your entire family....I am so sorry for your loss.  May he rest in peace......Connie (Bell) Herrick

I knew Nelson professionally as a facilities director.  He always had a smile on his face and I looked forward to meetings where he would be present.  We would share work events and similar issues and he always made it seem like we were in this together. Nelson was such a gentle soul and always with a smile. I’ve known Nelson throughout elementary and high school years. We had many discussion, while Nelson was at Oxford School and I at Auburn School. Last we spoke was at our 50th LHS Class Reunion. He had not changed at all...still the very quiet and soft spoken individual that he was. He will be greatly missed by those who got to meet him. My condolences to Karen, family and friends.

It is at times like this that I wish I was back home in Maine. It was a shock to see Nelson's obit posted in the LHS Class of '69 FB page this morning. Nelson and I grew up in the same neighborhood on Grove St. in Lewiston. We rode bus #13 to Holy Family School together for eight years and then both attended LHS. Nel joined the Navy and I the Air Force in 1970. I didn't see him again until our 25th high school reunion, still the same quiet, lovable guy. Seems I last spoke to Nel a few years ago when making plans for our 50th class reunion in 2019. Although we didn't see each other often, I did manage to keep updates with what was going on with his life through his occasional postings on FB. 

Sending my sincere condolences to Karen and the entire Nelson family. May the good Lord embrace all of you during this difficult time of grieving and give you the strength needed to endure this terrible loss.

You are the most kind, loving, patient, understanding, unselfish, man in our lives. Your unwavering faith, and love of all of us will be with me forever. You were a gift to us, and we are heartbroken to have lost you so soon. You knew I was gullible and told me stories I believed and when I looked at you, you're smile and laugh made me realize I fell for it again. I will miss that, as well as your hugs a comfort you were always willing to give.

I found out three days after the fact that Nelson had unexpectedly passed away. It was a blow. How is it that though you have not seen someone for a long time you are devastated to learn they are no longer in the world? If I feel this way, I can only imagine that Karen must be bereft and his family heartbroken.  However, knowing the incredibly empathetic and caring person Nelson was, he would not want the sadness to dominate our being. In fact, he would probably give us “that look” and a sardonic grin to get his loved ones and friends back onto a more positive path. He would understand the tears but I suspect he would rather we remember the funny, sometimes silly and wonderful experiences we have shared with him. I mean after all, the person who invented, “Red Day,” would want us to be laughing too. Could we ever forget Mike Ready’s face when, as he perused his staff, he began to notice everyone was attired in RED. Our tribute to Nelson’s bright red pants that would appear about once a week. When Nelson retired, (the first time!), we presented him with a Send-Off the likes that has likely never been repeated. Instead of the “Judge Ito” dancers (a little pop culture history there) we recreated a Line Dancing extravaganza with each person representing Nelson at some point. There was “District Manager Day Nelson,” (formal suit and tie) There was “Jail House Nelson” (Participant in the annual fundraising Charity Jail and Bail ), “Have a beer after Work Nelson” and of course “Red Day Nelson…!” Sharon’s Poignant and moving song, “You’re Leaving” could not be more fitting both then and now. I have always felt closer and more connected to this group of people than any other job I have had. Nelson was one of those who made our time together special. Love you all. Tena Linsbeck-Perron

I was very fortunate to work with Nelson for many years.   He was such a wonderful person always had that great smile on his face.  His love for his family was very evident in our many conversations.   His ability to make stressful situations easier  on everyone was a true gift.  Wish I could have hugged you one more time.  God bless you and your family .

I had the privilege of working with Nelson for 12 years. He was one of the kindest persons I knew. He was crazy about his family. Always working on some project. For someone else . He was gifted in his work and talents. Even after he retired he would swing by the office to check on everyone. I will miss his guidance and reflective thinking. Rest in peace dear friend.,
