Lewiston, Me, Tonya Renee Cyr, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and auntie, passed away on May 2, 2025, at her home with family by her side, after a 5-year battle with ovarian cancer. Tonya was born on August 14, 1972, in Portland, Me, to Stephen & Patricia Cote of Westbrook, Maine.
Tonya graduated from Westbrook High School in 1990, went on to Cosmetology school, and worked as an ambulance driver in Gorham before passing the EMT-B test. She worked in both fields for a few years. Tonya then married Kevin Crouanas of Gorham, Me, in 1993. She worked at SYSCO in Portland until early 2000. Tonya and Kevin parted ways and have stayed great friends to this very day.
In 2000, Tonya started her insurance career at UNUM. This is where Tonya met Ronald Cyr Jr. She would go to the café where he worked as a grill line cook and order a ham, egg, and cheese beagle every morning. She would come back down for lunch, and he would make her grilled ham and cheese just about every day. She would come back down in the afternoon while he was cleaning up from lunch, and they would talk. They both were shy so her coworker is the one who asked Ron on a date for Tonya.
In 2002, they got married in Augusta and started their life together. Caleb was born in August 2003. 3 months later, Ron was deployed to Iraq with his brother. Tonya moved in with her sister-in-law Anna Cyr, and they raised Caleb and Anna's two little ones, Blaine and Gwenna. Tonya and Anna held the fort down till March of 2005 when the boys came home.
In 2005, Tonya bought a house in Lewiston, where they still live. In 2006, Brody was born, and that completed Tonya and Ron's family. Tonya loved those boys more the words can say. Ron and the boys were her world. Family was first in Tonya's eyes, and that was all she wanted in life.
The last 20 years, Tonya and Ron have become a name in the community of Lewiston. If you went to the Little League fields any night of the week and on Saturdays, you would see Ron coaching on the field or mowing lawns, and you would see Tonya in the snack shack. When Caleb was in high school, you would see Tonya and Ron in the snack shack volunteering their time when Caleb was not on the lacrosse field. This is the point where Tonya started making friends in the community. Every ball player, Ron had Tonya, was in the stands talking to their parents. Caleb and Brody's friend referred to Tonya as Mama Tonya. She loved their friends as her kids. Her smile and laughter are what drew people into her, and then they were stuck with her for the rest of their lives.
In 2014, she worked at Sound Limbs in Lewiston as the office manager until 2020, when she fell ill with cancer. After Covid, she went to work for a Title company for 3 years and then went to work for Two Lights Settlement Services in Auburn, where she worked till this past February. Tonya was a strong woman
Tonya is survived by her husband, Ronald B Cyr Jr, sons Caleb and Brody Cyr of Lewiston, Mother Patricia (Rogers) Cote of Westbrook, sister Tina and husband Phill Burns of Orono, brother Jeremiah and wife Jennifer Cote of East Baldwin, brother Mark and wife Tori Cote of Auburn, brother in law Jason and wife Anna Cyr of S.
