Anita was born in Lexington, SC to parents, Vera and James O. Snelgrove, Jr. on March 3, 1955 and was one of four children. She graduated from Lexington High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in nursing. She married her high school sweetheart of 47 years, Larry Glover, on February 14, 1975. Anita was very active and loved Lake Murray, arts and crafts, and being known as “Mama G” to all of her “other adopted” children. Always holding a special interest in her two children’s careers and passions, she was well known for being the “lunch lady” to the Lexington County Fire Services, Lake Murray and Lexington Fire Stations, where her son, Cameron Glover, serves. Additionally, she was heavily involved in the Lexington High School Softball and Booster Club during her daughter’s, Ashley Loy, softball career.
Always having a kind heart, a smile, and full of cheer, Anita was a driven and dedicated nursing professional for 43 years. She began her career at Richland Memorial Hospital in 1975, where she was the Nurse Manager for the first Open Heart Surgery Unit opened at the hospital. She was also instrumental in perfecting change in the Trauma Unit of the hospital.
In 2010, she accepted a new challenge at Lexington Medical Center. During her tenure at Lexington Medical Center, as a Nurse Manager, she and her dedicated nursing staff became the recipients of the Beacon Award – one of the highest quality nursing awards issued by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing. Her last assignment was as the Nurse Manager overseeing the 4th floor Surgical ICU. Those who worked under her leadership remember her as a person who pushed others to accomplish the impossible. As a leader, she strived to teach and develop those within her nursing staff to excel and become managers. One of her many accomplishments can be seen by the actions of the many nurses she nurtured and mentored who have gone on to excel and serve the medical profession.
