A memorial service for Ann Daniel Bridges, 81, will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
Having spent most of her life in the Columbia and Lexington area, Ann gave up her earthly life on May 7, 2023. She attended A. C. Moore Elementary, Hand Jr. High and graduated from Dreher High School in 1959. The widow of Tommy Gene Bridges and the daughter of the late George Milton Daniel, Jr. and Katherine Potter Daniel, she is survived by her son, Tommy Gene Bridges, Jr. (Sheila) of Central, SC; grandson, Connor Gene and brothers, George Milton Daniel, III (Sophia) of Phoenix, AZ and John Charles Daniel (Lisa) of Cornelius, NC. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Jimmy Ray Bridges (Marie) and several nieces and nephews. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lexington, in recent years she was a regular attender of Mt. Horeb UMC in Lexington.
Ann’s life and DNA revolved around service to others. In addition to employment in the Lexington County Auditor’s Office, she also worked in the Finance Department of Lexington State Bank (now Truist), Lexington County Registration and Election Commission, Lexington School District 1 Office, Lexington Elementary School and Irmo Middle School. Ann served many hours and was much loved as a volunteer (Volunteer of the Year, 2020) at Lexington Extended Care.
Playing tennis, riding horses, travelling, and her service business “Angel Annie on Call” gave Ann much pleasure in life. She would drive to doctor’s appointments, buy groceries, organize their home, hang pictures, and visit with her clients. She often brought Tommy into her good deeds for the difficult jobs.
Ann and Tommy played a key role in finding an El Salvadorian tennis player a place on the USC Tennis Team roster! As host family for Jaime Cuellar, a travelling tournament player at a Lexington County event, Ann saw potential in him and called the coach at USC (Kent DeMars). She told him he needed to come see this high schooler from a Florida tennis training camp perform on the courts. Jaime ultimately was the #1 singles player, completed undergraduate and MBA at USC, and married a Columbia/USC young woman.
Ann’s true joy came from friends, serving, and her husband, Tommy. Tommy was Ann’s lifeblood. And when he died, life was never quite the same.
The family extends much appreciation to the residents of Spence’s Point who helped Ann manage tasks beyond her abilities; her friend, Karyn Ward, who kept her able to live independently longer than expected; Oakleaf Village at Lexington who served Ann with dignity for many months following a fall which changed her life. The family is grateful to All Seasons Hospice and Dr. Stanley McCloy for rendering sensitive care for many months.
Mount Horeb UMC provided spiritual care that brought life and understanding at times when she was at her lowest.
