

COLUMBIA – Surrounded by family at home, Art passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Born on April 22, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN, Art was a son of the late Anna Ella Rose and Herman Henry Streich. Enlisting at age 17, he proudly served as a medic in the Navy and the Marines in the Pacific during World War II. Afterwards, he attended Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, graduating in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He made a career out of selling mutual funds and other investments, but his passion was public speaking. He was involved with Toastmaster’s International since 1952, and achieved the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) rank with the Palmetto Master Crafters, a local Toastmaster chapter. He was an active member of Columbia First Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Arlene June Streich; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Peter Frost of Long Island, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Deb Streich of Kona, HI and daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Doug Coonce of Columbia, SC; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; Art’s brother-in-law and his wife, Roger and Barbara Ostlund and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother and four sisters. He will be missed by both family and his many friends.
The family will attend a burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, 901 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Visitation with the family will be at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Columbia First Church of the Nazarene or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Harmony Hospice. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
