

GASTON (Sandy Run) – Funeral services for Billy Ervin Strickland, 80, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment in Woodridge Memorial Park. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Terry Wilder of Swansea 1st Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 at the funeral home Chapel.
Bill was born November 20, 1934 in Johnston County, NC and went home to be with his Savior Friday, March 20, 2015 following a 7-year battle with adrenal gland cancer. He was a son of the late Elijah E. Strickland and Lillian Gertrude Strickland.
Bill was raised on a tobacco farm in North Carolina, served his country in the U.S. Army and then went to Florida where he married his sweetheart, Sarah Frances Kyzer in 1960 and started his own company, Bill Strickland Floor Covering. Mr. Strickland was well known in the medical field at Orlando Regional Hospital, Winter Park Hospital, Halifax Hospital and other medical areas for his expertise in commercial flooring. Bill and Sarah became united in a good church family and “honesty was more important than money.” Bill enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting with his Christian Friends.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Sarah Frances Kyzer Strickland; daughter, Anita Wynne Strickland Eckoff (John) of South Carolina; son, Michael Jay Strickland of Florida; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Strickland and Donald Strickland; sisters, Margaret Boggs, Alease Scott and Carolyn Porter all of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Betty Faye Belvin.
