Christopher J. Hedgecock

LEXINGTON – Christopher James Hedgecock of Lexington, SC, died peacefully, October 5, 2018. He was born January 12, 1984 in Tallahassee, Florida, to Ed and Brenda Hedgecock. He was welcomed to the family by his brother Brian Hedgecock.

Chris was a fighter and overcame cancer at the age of 4. He was small in stature, but a giant in heart and soul. He loved people and animals. He enjoyed riddles and jokes and loved to make up his own corny jokes. Chris was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Lexington High School. Chris was a life-long lover of professional wrestling, and was a regular fan who attended any matches that were anywhere near Lexington. He could talk to any of the biggest and meanest wrestlers and make them laugh. He had many friends within professional wrestling.

His family will remember his sense of humor and his love of words. At dinner he would always bring his new “words of the day” and ask their definitions. Those words were the topic of many a dinner conversation. He was a night owl and stayed up late to watch “I Love Lucy” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.” His new passion was “Four Pics and a Word.” He would play for hours trying to come up with the word and was very successful. He loved to visit zoos and would often tell family members that he could not walk that far, so get his wheel chair. He wanted to ride. His favorite animals were the big cats.

A special thanks goes to Kevin Spell for his long and continuous friendship. The family would also like to thank all of the doctors and nurses that helped take care of him over the years. They prolonged his life for many years. He loved to talk about wrestling with Dr. William Korman and loved to joke with Dr. Fredrick Peihl. Dr. Ron Neuberg and Dr. Bob Ettinger saved his life at age four. Dr. Jack Turbyfill spent many hours working with him as his dentist.

Chris is survived by his parents, Brenda and Ed Hedgecock of Lexington, and his brother, Brian Hedgecock (Crystal Boone) of Columbia. Chris’s sense of humor and love of jokes and riddles will be missed by his numerous family members and friends.

Visitation will be at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home in Lexington, SC, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday, October 6, 2018. A service to celebrate the life and the promise of eternal life will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC, Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 2:30 pm. Memorials may be made to Camp Kemo at Palmetto Richland Children’s Hospital.
