Dorothy Epting

WEST COLUMBIA – On Wednesday, October 29, 2014, our precious wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, mother-in-law, cousin, aunt, and friend, Dorothy Laird Epting passed on to eternal life. She was surrounded by her loving family who were with her at Lexington Medical Center. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Dora Walling. She was a charter member of Green Hill Baptist Church, West Columbia, SC. Dorothy retired from Allied Chemical/Honeywell. She loved her family and enjoyed visits from them. During her 90 years on this earth, she enjoyed hobbies such as cooking, baking, writing poetry, singing, and reading her Bible. Dorothy fought her sickness with grace, humility, courage, and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful, dear, Mother. We want to thank everyone for their heart-felt condolences. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We would like to thank the staff of 5th floor North Tower at Lexington Medical Center for their tender care. Our gratitude and thanks go to Amedisys Hospice Care who brought such sunshine and joy into the hearts of our family. A very special thank you to Dorothy’s special church friend, Pat Whittle, for the visits, smiles, laughs, and special remembrances of happy times in years gone by.

Surviving are her children, Russell Laird (Rosie), Sam Laird (Pat), Mickey Laird (Patsy), Renee´ Laird, Myra Epting, Dr. Jimmy Epting (Gretchen) and nine grandchildren, Michael Laird, Rusti Laird, Rosie Dedeaux, Lisa Cloer, Curtis Laird, Tina Kolb, Dr. Bert Epting, Paul Epting and Daphne Weyand with seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is predeceased by her husbands, Marion J. Laird and Rev. Dr. B. I. Epting.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. The service will be conducted by The Rev. Brett Marlow, The Rev. Mark Hathcox, and Dr. Jimmy Epting.

Pallbearers will be Michael Laird, Brandon Evans, Chuck Dedeaux, Charles Dedeaux, Tim Corey, Curtis Laird, Chaz Laird, and Quang Bui. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Greenville University, Epting Foundation or The Shut-in Ministries of Green Hill Baptist Church..
