Ellen Wiggins Ward

LEXINGTON – Funeral service for Ellen Wiggins Ward, 84, of Lexington, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3679 Leaphart Rd, West Columbia, SC 29169 with interment in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Mrs. Ward was born February 27, 1932 in Charleston, SC and passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017. She was a daughter of the late William W. Wiggins, III and Virginia Louise Slaughter Wiggins. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses. Ellen married Kenneth Ward on December 21, 1955 in Charleston SC where they resided and had three of their four children. They later moved to Columbia SC and had their fourth child. She graduated Cosmetology school in 1950 and practiced Cosmetology until she went to work for Lexington Medical Center in 1972. Ellen retired from Lexington Medical Center in 2002 as a Monitor Technician. She enjoyed making flower arrangements, crafts and being with her children and grandchildren. She loved reading her Bible and loved life.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly W. Black of West Columbia and Leah Ward of Lexington; son, Lester Ward of Lexington; sister, Florence Purgason of West Columbia; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a niece. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth H. Ward; son, Kenneth G. Ward and her brother, William “Billy” Wiggins.
