Emma Lowery Stiles, 89 years, of Batesburg, SC passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, with her husband and children by her side. She was born December 22, 1931 in Marshville, NC and was the daughter of the late Gertrude Leonard Lowery and Maurice (Morris S.) Spurgeon Lowery. Emma was one of twelve children, growing up on a farm in NC.
Mrs. Stiles is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack V. Stiles, and their four children, Pamela S. Strawn (Capers) of Florence, SC, Stanley K. Stiles of North Augusta, SC, Wesley V. Stiles of Batesburg, SC and Revonda S. Jeffcoat (Terry) of Bethune, SC. There are five grandchildren: Courtney Jeffcoat, Heath Strawn, Skyler Strawn, Amanda Stiles and Adam Jeffcoat and six great-grandchildren: Bentley Jeffcoat, Tristen Jeffcoat, Madisen Jeffcoat, Kynzlee Peagler, Riley Strawn and River Strawn. Emma is also survived by one sister, Virginia Guion (J.B.) of Monroe, NC and one brother, Melvin Lowery (Evelyn) of Monroe, NC.
Emma was a Bell South telephone operator in her early years. After marriage, she was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom to her children. Some of her favorite things were flowers, vegetable gardening, sewing and babies. She was a loving wife, mother and caring grandmother and great grandmother who loved meeting people, especially children. While living in Columbia, SC, Emma had her own daycare business in the family home, caring for many infant to kindergarten age children, while their parents went to work. They affectionately called her “Mimi”, and she cared for them as if they were her own. Emma also loved sewing clothes for her young children and also was a seamstress for a short while, sewing costumes for a local costume company. She loved growing her own vegetables, harvesting them and freezing and canning. Emma lovingly cared for her home and family. She also enjoyed her neighbors, church socials and attendance while she was able to attend.
Our family would like to express gratitude and appreciation to Joyce L. Robbins and her husband, Richard Robbins for their continuous outpouring of love and care to our family.
The family would like to thank each of the staff of Trinity Hospice, Aiken, SC, for their compassion and special care during Emma’s illness and also serving our family.
