George graduated from A.C. Flora High School and the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Business. George was a member of St. Francis of the Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin. He was retired from Carolina’s Rigging in sales. George always had a smile on his face and loved nothing more than to be around his children and grandchildren, family and friends. He was an avid boater and would take a boat ride at the drop of the hat. He and Bonnie loved having people over to the lake to swim and eat any chance they could.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Bonnie Faye Tindall McMurray; and his parents, Dr. David John McMurray and Dorothy Jones McMurray.
Surviving are his sons, George Hughes McMurray, Jr. (Casey) and John Everrett McMurray (Michelle); step-grandson, Jordan Little; granddaughter, Tindall Marie McMurray; brother, David Laird McMurray; sisters, Martha McMurray Stoney (Randall) and Abigail McMurray Golde (Larry, deceased) and Jennifer Reed deceased (Rick); brother-in-law, Julius Everett Tindall, Jr. “Rhett” (Charla), and sister-in-law, Beverly Tindall Sparkman (Tommy). He adored all of his wonderful nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Francis of the Assisi Episcopal Church, 735 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin, SC 29036, on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
