Hector Lee Rodriguez

LEXINGTON - Reverend Hector Lee Rodriguez, 60, of Lexington went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, June 10, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 28, 1955 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin to Avelino Rodriguez and the late Celia Rodriguez. Hector was a loved husband, son, father and brother, friend and pop.

He was a 1984 graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MI where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pastoral studies with a minor in Foreign Missions. He also served his country in the United States Navy from 1972-1975 on active duty and several years in the reserves. He worked seventeen years for South Carolina Student Loan Corporation before becoming the assistant pastor of First Baptist Church from 2007-2014 where he was lovingly called “Pastor Hector.” He then started a new church plant in the Pine Ridge area named Journey Baptist Church and was there for two years. His final and probably most rewarding job was working with the homeless population at the Oliver Gospel Mission in downtown Columbia. His greatest passion was leading people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ and then helping them to grow and develop into mature Christians.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Lexington, 415 Barr Rd, Lexington, SC 29072 with the Reverend Don Turner and the Reverend Ralph Schneck officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Toby’s Place and the Oliver Gospel Mission, 1100 Taylor St. Columbia, SC 29201 which serves the homeless population for men, women and children in the Columbia area.

Hector is predeceased by his mother, Celia Rodriguez and brother, Halbert Rodriguez. He is survived by his father, Avelino Rodriguez (Juana) of Corpus Christi, TX; sister, Maria Louisa Rodriguez Murray (Mike) of Fort Atkinson, WI; brothers, Able Jesus Rodriguez (Linda) of Abilene, TX, Joe Rodriguez (Delia) of Anson, TX, Eddie Rodriguez (Mary) of Anson, TX, Bert Rodriguez (Gloria) of Corpus Christi, TX, Avel Rodriguez (Tanya) of Corpus Christi, TX, and many nieces and nephews. Hector was married to his loving wife, Jean Rodriguez for 33 years. They had three sons, Adam Lee Rodriguez (Sarah) Benjamin Luke Rodriguez, Philip James Rodriguez (Tracy); grandsons, Abram Isiah Rodriguez, Jackson Luke Rodriguez, Peyton Eli Rodriguez, Conner Ean Rodriguez and Braxton Pierce Rodriguez, all of Lexington.

Hector Lee Rodriguez will always be remembered and cherished in our hearts until that day when we see him again in eternity. We love you Sweetheart, Dad, Brother, Uncle, Son and Pop!
