Hoyt C. Burnett Jr.

LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Hoyt Cromwell Burnett, Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Kathwood Baptist Church, with the Reverend Beth McConnell presiding. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall at noon. Private interment will be in the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, SC, at 4:00 p.m. Hoyt passed away on September 5, 2016. He was born in Columbia, SC to the late Hoyt Cromwell, Sr. and Carrie Rawls Burnett. Hoyt was a graduate of Saluda High School. He attended Gordon Military College and Auburn University. He was a graduate of Wofford College where he was a member of the Blue Key Honor Society, Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Hoyt was a four-year letterman in football at Wofford. His senior year he was selected Captain of the team, First Team All State and most valuable player for a four year career. Football brought much joy to his life as a player and as a spectator.His professional career included 30 years with the State of South Carolina, working with Vocational Rehabilitation, Midlands Technical College and Lexington School District Five. Hoyt loved the Lord and held his faith at the center of his life. He was a faithful member for nearly five decades at Kathwood Baptist Church. Hoyt leaves to cherish his memory his son, Hoyt Cromwell Burnett III and his wife, Sarah; his three grandchildren, Lucy Grace, Nathan, and Millie Burnett of Columbia, SC; his sister, Virginia Burnett Harmon of Columbia; his niece, Ginger Byrd and her husband, Todd, of Powder Springs, GA, and their children, Andrew and Caroline, and his nephew, Edward Mitchell of Saluda, SC. He was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia Burnett Mitchell.
