GILBERT – Funeral services for Hubert Cyrus Smith, 87, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday January 28, 2016 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. The service will be conducted by The Rev. Bob Helton. Pallbearers will be Shannon Shoemake, Shane Smith, Ricky Whittle, William Whittle, John Davis and Tripp Bumgarner.
Hubert was born August 15, 1928 in Lexington County and passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016. He was a son of the late Cyrus Grady Smith and Virtilla Roberts Smith. Hubert was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He loved his family and was a great father, grandfather, hunter and fisherman. Mr. Smith served his country in the United States Army.
Surviving are his daughter, Miriam Adkins (Harry) of Cayce, and Patricia Shoemake (Billy) of West Columbia; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Olivia Whittle (Leroy); brother-in-law, Butch Weaver. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Annette Weaver.
