
Lee C. “Ted” Marshall, Jr., age 86, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born on June 10, 1938, in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Lee C. Marshall, Sr., and Vera Downey Marshall.
Ted graduated from St. Aloysius High School, in Vicksburg, in 1956. He enlisted in the Mississippi National Guard, was later commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, and went on to serve over thirty years in the Guard and U.S. Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of Colonel. Simultaneously, he pursued a career as a Department of the Army Civilian, retiring in 1997 as the Civilian Personnel Officer at Ft. Jackson, SC.
While employed at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Waterways Experiment Station, in Vicksburg, MS, Ted met Sherry D. White, a nursing student at Mercy Hospital. They were married in 1964 and began a life together that took them from Vicksburg to Kailua , HI., Virginia Beach, Va., and finally to the Irmo and Lexington areas of SC.
Ted and Sherry spent their retirement years enjoying their family, traveling, volunteering with the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and serving on the neighborhood HOA board. They were married for over fifty-nine years; she preceded him in death in May, 2024. They are survived by their four children, Lee C. Marshall III (Tammy), Jennifer Champagne (Charlie), Robert Marshall (Bethany), and Patrick Marshall (Amy); six grandchildren, Katie Langley (Matthew), Lauren Champagne, Wyatt Marshall, Eli Marshall, Emerson Marshall, and Knox Marshall, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents and three siblings, Eleanor Bagby, Vera Brown, and Charlie Marshall.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service, between 9:30 am and 10:15 am, in the church narthex.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Lexington Medical Center, Wellmore of Lexington, Lexington Community Hospice House – Agape Care, all of whom provided his care, as well as to the many neighbors and friends who provided support to the family.
