
CAYCE- Lucien Vincent Bruno died Saturday, April 22, 2017 following a brief illness. Memorial service for “Red” Bruno will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Cayce, SC with interment of Ashes on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Lakeside Cemetery, Conway, SC. The Rev. Patricia Sexton will officiate.
Devoted husband of the late Eleanor Godfrey Bruno, Mr. Bruno was born February 7, 1923 in Metuchen, NJ. He was the son of the late Lucien Vincent and Francesca Rinaldi Bruno. He received a degree in Ceramic Engineering from Rutgers College where he was Captain of the Cross Country Team, and also a member of the Swimming and Diving Team and the Track and Field Team. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. In 1958 he received the Loyal Sons & Daughters of Rutgers Award.
In World War II he served as a US Navy pilot where he was an instrument Flight Instructor at Corpus Christi, Texas and Pensacola, Florida.
Following employment at Federal Seaboard Terracotta CO., Perth Amboy, NJ, Mr. Bruno became Manager then President of Guignard Brick Works, West Columbia-Cayce, SC.
He was a founding member of All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Cayce, SC where he served as Warden and Vestryman. He also served on the Episcopal Diocesan Board.
Mr. Bruno was active in Civic organizations. He was a member of the West Columbia-Cayce Lions Club. He was past President of the EAGC (Executive Association of greater Columbia), Columbia Music Festival, USO, Navy League, Dental Clinic, and West Columbia-Cayce Chamber of Commerce. He was on the Boards of the United Fund, Columbia Museum of Arts and the Salvation Army where he was a life member. He was an engineer, explorer and aviator who embraced life with enthusiasm and compassion.
Mr. Bruno is survived by one son, Lucien V. Bruno, Jr. (Carroll) of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Eleanor B. Wilson (Conway) of Hickory, NC and Elizabeth B. Eaton of Manchester by the Sea, MA; six grandchildren, Thomas C. Wilson, Eleanor W. Ellender (Ryan), Lucien V. Bruno, IV, Elizabeth S. Eaton, Paul T. Eaton, II and James H. Eaton; two great-grandchildren, Thomas P. Ellender and Adeline B. Ellender. He was predeceased by his wife, son, James H. Bruno, sisters, Marie B. Pratscher, Louise B. Vogel, Frieda B. Mlott and brother, Henry L. Bruno.
