Nancy Olivia Nichols

Nancy Olivia Nichols passed away at her home in Gilbert, SC, on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the age of 70. She was surrounded by her loving family as she finished her over two year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as ALS.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years, Malcolm Thomas Nichols; daughter, Sarah Nichols Jackson (Steven) of Lexington; son, Malcolm Timothy Nichols of Lexington; and grandchildren, Rielly Olivia Jackson, Charles Reece Jackson, Ainsley Caroline Jackson, Holden Walker Jackson, William David Nichols, and Henry James Nichols, all of Lexington, SC. She was predeceased by her parents, James Henry Floyd, Jr. and Geraldine Johnson Floyd and brother, James Henry Floyd, III.

Nancy was born on September 12 in Ellicott City, Maryland, where she enjoyed a loving home with two sisters and two brothers: Janice Floyd Ostmann (Louie), James Henry Floyd, III (Kris), Jeannie Floyd Taft (Fred) and William Richard Floyd (CindyLee). She graduated from Glenelg High School in 1970 and married Malcolm in Ellicott City on May 25, 1975. She supported Malcolm in his pursuit as a successful general contractor in the greater Baltimore area until Sarah arrived in 1978 and Tim in 1981 when she then turned her loving attention to raising their family. She enjoyed time with their friends and family at their home on Talbots Landing in Ellicott City. They made many memories there hosting picnics, birthdays and holiday celebrations. After becoming grandparents in the early 2000s, Malcolm and Nancy decided to move down to South Carolina to be closer to their growing family. Malcolm was able to quickly establish himself in the residential contracting community and Nancy worked with the Lexington School District One where she endeared herself to students and co‐workers alike. They worshipped at Beulah United Methodist Church where they served the community through workdays and many outreach programs. Nancy enjoyed an active lifestyle playing tennis and her most recent pursuit, pickle ball. She was an avid fan of anything related to Virginia Tech or her beloved Baltimore Ravens. Her dynamic and out‐going personality afforded her the opportunity to make many friends. It was those many friends and her family that helped her and Malcolm walk through the ALS diagnosis in November of 2020. She remained more concerned about her family and friends instead of her own diminishing health until the end.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Beulah United Methodist Church, 161 Beulah Church Road, Gilbert, SC 29054 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive guests from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm prior to the service.
