Phil Colin Wunder, 82, died peacefully at his home on March 27, 2024, having successfully lived with Type 1 diabetes for 50 years. Phil was born in Anderson County, SC, the son of the late Felix Phillip, Jr. and Mary King Wunder.
He attended Anderson and Greenville County elementary schools until his family moved to Fayetteville, then Greensboro, NC. He moved to Columbia, SC in 10th grade and graduated from Dreher High School in 1960. He was a graduate of the University of SC and completed the young executives program at the University of NC. While a student at USC, he began his career at Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company. After leaving Colonial, he received his Series 7 certification and was a broker at Smith Barney and NCNB Securities. He earned a Certified Financial Planning designation and advised private clients until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Harriette Derrick Wunder, and one daughter, Amanda Wunder Harling. He is also survived by twin granddaughters, Emily Margaret and Lucy Amanda Harling, who were the loves of his life; brother, Jerry D. Wunder (Sheryl); sister-in-law, Julie Derrick Allen, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Earlyne Derrick Monts.
A service in thanksgiving for his life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 2081 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin, SC 29036 by the Reverend Megan Lineberger on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 AM. The family invites you to a reception directly across the street at the Heritage at Lowman following the service.
