LEXINGTON – A memorial service for Sally Whelpley Carmody, 66, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mrs. Carmody was born July 18, 1944 in Rochester, NY and passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. She was a daughter of the late William Henry Whelpley and Ruth Norma Clancy Whelpley. Sally was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for many years in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Sally was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society. She was also a member of the Fort Ligonier Days Parade serving as chairman.
Mrs. Carmody is survived by her husband, Richard Carmody of Lexington; son, Adam Carmody of Colorado Springs; daughters, Marcy Bytnar of Columbia and Michele Smith of Benson, NC; grandchildren, Hank, Jake and Tucker Bytnar, Hunter and Alexis Smith and Christopher Joseph Carmody and sister, Cathy Fleming. Mrs. Carmody was predeceased by her parents and brothers, John and Curtis Whelpley.
