Sara Frances Covington Jennings

She resided at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, Carroll Campbell, Ellis Crossing since July 26, 2022. As her condition deteriorated, hospice care began August 9, 2023.

Sara’s compassionate, courageous, unwavering love, dedication, Christian values and tenacity exemplified her life. She was married to Edward Jennings on December 7, 1962, a marriage lasting 64 years. They had two children, Lisa and Stan and a granddaughter, Haven.

She graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1958. She began her professional career in Gynecology and Obstetrics after graduating as Registered Nurse from Kershaw General Hospital in 1961, then worked at York County General Hospital, Rock Hill, S.C., followed by Elizabeth City General Hospital, N.C. After moving to Lexington, S.C., Sara continued her career at Baptist Hospital, Columbia, S.C. She later worked in Obstetrics office for Dr’s. Hahn and Powell. Her final employment was Blue Choice Health Plan as Maternity Management Coordinator for Health and Disease Management. Sara retired in 2016 after a stellar career. She was loved and respected by her patients and co-workers. Her work ethic and sense of humor was admired by all.

Sara was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Minerva Fox Covington; father, Guy B. Covington; husband, Ernest Edward Jennings; brothers, Ray Lyle Covington, Paul Clyde Covington, William (Bill) Cork Covington, Col. Donald Covington, Chaplin USA, Tommy Ronald Covington and Carl Hovis Covington. All of Sara’s brothers served in US military. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth (Libby) Alice Harrison and Betty Jean Adickes.

She is survived by children, Lisa Ann Jennings Griffis and Stanley Edward Jennings, and granddaughter, Haven Shea Jennings; sisters, Mary Ella Lovett and Capt. Norma Ann Covington, NCUSN Ret; and brother, COL Wayne Ralph Covington, USA Ret.

Sara’s Remembrance Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Mt. Horeb Church. Rev. Faye Stephens, Congregational Care Associate, will be officiating the service. There will be a viewing at the church one hour prior to service.
