It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sheila Jones Clayton of Columbia, SC. She died peacefully on June 26, 2020 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 60 years old. Sheila was born May 5, 1960 in Lumberton, NC. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Lois Abbott of Columbia and the late James Jones of Fairmont, NC.
She graduated from Brookland Cayce High School in 1978 and attended the University of South Carolina where she met her husband, John “Randy” Clayton. They were married almost 39 years and had three children, Lauren Clayton Carney of Lexington, SC (Kendall), John “Connor” Clayton of Fort Campbell Kentucky, and Madeline Lee Clayton of Charleston, SC. Being a mom was her proudest accomplishment, and she truly devoted her life to her kids. She also had three grandchildren who called her MiMi and were the light of her life, Garrett, Sara Carrigan Carney and a foster granddaughter.
Sheila was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2020 and fought till the very end when she succumbed to complications due to the cancer.
She loved the South Carolina Gamecocks, win or lose, and attending their sporting events over the years.
Our family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time. We want to thank the MICU team at Prisma Richland for all they did and for making her comfortable during her final days.
