

Born in Camp Zama, a United States Army post located in the Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, he is the son of John G. Hiatt and Hong Lan Hiatt. Alex is a graduate of Brookland Cayce High School in Cayce, South Carolina, Class of 1995. Thereafter, he attended The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. Alex’s education concluded at the Institute of Textile Technology with a concentration in computer network systems. Throughout his career, Alex worked as an information technology advisor at DRÄXLMAIER Group, global support specialist at Chicago Bridge & Iron Company, and information systems engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company.
Alex leaves his loving siblings, John Hiatt and his wife, Leigh Hiatt of Lexington, South Carolina; Jacqueline H. Patterson and her husband, John Knight of Greenville, South Carolina; Linda Spainhour and her husband, Travis Spainhour of West Columbia, South Carolina. He is also survived by his nine nieces and nephews, Christopher Hiatt, Mikayla Hiatt, Logan Hiatt, Baylee Hiatt, Victoria V. Patterson, Alexis Spainhour, Peyton Hiatt, Cadence Hiatt and Tristan Spainhour.
Both family and friends will remember Alex for his technological ingenuity and gentle spirit. Many touched by his presence experienced his depth of compassion and selflessness.
The visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church with interment at Mount Tabor Cemetery.
