Obituary of Rev.  E. Howard Carter
Rev. E. Howard Carter, 90, of Liberty, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Whitewater Commons Senior Living in Liberty. Howard was born in Keokee, Virginia on May 19, 1927, to James M. and Flossie Barker Carter. He graduated from high school in Mason, Ohio and on September 12, 1945, Howard was married to the former Betty Jane Price in Covington, Kentucky. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II as Seaman First Class. After he received his doctorate of divinity from the seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, Howard served in ministry for more than 55 years in various churches. He was a member and former pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church. In his leisure time, Howard enjoyed golf, travel and talking to his many friends. Howard is survived by his brother: Danny Carter; his sister: Geneva McKeehan; four children and their spouses: David Carter and Debra of West Chester, Ohio; Steven Carter and Michelle of Liberty; Deborah Kline and Tom of Graham, North Carolina; and Patricia Puckett of Centerville, Ohio; daughter-in-law: Marlene Carter of Madisonville, Kentucky; ten grandchildren and their spouses: Melissa Phillips and Danny, Lori Gamblin and Scotty, Amy Camplin and Dwight, Michael Carter and Ildiko, Mark Carter and Heather, Anita Dannaker and Brian, Jason Carter and Shola, Randall Kline and Katy, Kyle Puckett and Chris Puckett; eighteen great-grandchildren: Joshua Mercer, Ashley Earl and husband, Paul; Tyler Gamblin, Cory Gamblin, Colton Camplin and Caitlin Camplin; Allison, Shawn, Madison, Katie, Gracie, Nathan and Oliver Carter; Grace, Faith and Cole Maddox Carter; Aiden and Lochlan Dannaker, Julia Carter and Will Kline; two great-great-grandsons. In addition to his parents and wife of over 70 years, Howard was preceded in death by his son: Wayne Carter; son-in-law: Rick Puckett; his grandson: Matthew Puckett; a brother: Ed Carter; and a sister: Wilma Doyle. Funeral services for Rev. Carter will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2017, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Dr. Dennis Riddick officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 122 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1472. Friends may visit at the funeral home from10 a.m. Monday until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to the Liberty Baptist Church.
