

Sarah McCoy, 91, of Liberty, Mo., died February 22, 2017 of complications from Alzheimer’s. Sarah was born May 4, 1925 to John Render and Sarah “Maud” Hart Render in Shreveport, La. Her father was a bridge builder moving many times during her early years, settling in Maud’s family home in Prathersville, Mo. in March 1934. She was a gifted student. Sarah’s father died in February 1938. In June 1942 Sarah married Melvin McCoy, also of Prathersville, against her mother’s wishes. Melvin left for the war and Sarah worked in Kansas City until Melvin returned, and they moved to Liberty. Melvin owned a construction company with brother-in-law Ted, and Sarah kept the books. In 1958 they built and operated McBowl along with brother-in-law, Harrison. In 1948 son David was born. They were proud and loving parents and later grandparents. The family enjoyed fishing together, taking annual trips to Minnesota. McBowl was sold in the mid-80’s. After retirement she and Melvin enjoyed traveling to Omaha to attend horse and dog races. They loved watching the Royals and Chiefs. Sarah is preceded in death by Melvin, son David, sister Nancy Elmore, sisters-in-law Mildred Swearingen and Helen Hutchens. She is survived by grandchildren Andrew and Laurel, daughter-in-law Elaine, brothers-in-law Harrison (Jean) and Ted (Cheri) and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. Visitation is March 1, 10 – 11 am at Church-Archer-Pasley, with a short service at 11:00. Burial at Missouri City Cemetery. No flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
