She was born in Enfield, NC and was a graduate of Averett College in Danville,VA. She moved to Liberty in 1978 where she was an active member at Liberty First United Methodist Church and the Liberty Garden Club and volunteered with Meals On Wheels for 18 years. Agnes' kindness and love reached many people in our community and will never be forgotten. She had a strong love for family and her faith in God never waivered.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty, NC.
She was the daughter of the late Roger Lawson and Agnes Eugenia Walker Swain and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Winfred Smith; and two brothers, Lt. Col. Roger L. Swain, Jr. and Walker Lee Swain.
Surviving are nieces, Geraldine Lee Hearne of Boise, ID, Elizabeth Swain Long of Denver, CO; nephew, Bob Cromer, sisters-in-law, Ruth Smith and Irene Smith; special great-nieces and nephews, Lisa Cromer Cheek, Chad Cromer, Greg Cromer, Debbie Loflin Hardin, Marilyn Loflin, Kathy Smith, Charlie Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Brenda Richardson, Stefanie Polatis, Kevin Hearne, great-great-nephews, Gavin Hearne, Aiden Hearne, and Branden Fuller.
