He was a US Army Veteran, an active member of Newlyn Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro and was a member of the National Bee Keeper’s Association. Fred was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Greensboro for 36 years. He took great pride in sharing his trade of General Contracting with his grandchildren as he mentored them throughout the years.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park officiated by David Ritch.
Fred was the son of the late Willie and Ollie Ore Adkins and was also preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Layton Adkins; one daughter, Karen Poe; sister, Pearl Hutchins; and brothers, Paul Adkins, Melvin Adkins, and Robert Adkins.
Surviving is his son, Jeff Adkins, Jr and his wife, Laurie.; daughters, Debbie Ritch and husband, David, Melissa Camp and husband, James, and Donna Patton and husband, Eric; son-in-law, Roger Poe; grandchildren, Stephanie Hutchins, Daniel Ritch (Olivia), Jonathan Ritch (Lily), Bryant Camp (Liz), Shanna Camp, Kara Camp, Blair Patton, Krista Adkins, Emily Adkins, Nichol Quigley (Brian), and Amber Poe, great-grandchildren, Elly Camp, Beckett Camp, Everly Ritch, Declan Ritch, Mason Quigley, Carter Quigley, Hudsyn Quigley, and Baby Ritch due August 2021.
