Lula had a love for reading and sewing, but her greatest love was gardening. She had a strong will and believed in hard work and eating what you grew. She was a faithful member of Grays Chapel United Methodist Church. Among her many accomplishments, she graduated from Alexander Williams High School at the age of 14 as Valedictorian of the class.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jacob Kyker officiating; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Eleanor Pearce Tingen and was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wesley Routh, Sr.; sister, Thelma Glosson and brother, Robert Tingen.
Surviving are her daughters, Cathy Ward (Alvin), Sarah Jackson (Don), Susan Farr (Billy); sons, Thomas Wesley “Tommy” Routh, Jr. (Patti) and Jerry Routh; sister, Ruth Rudd and brother, Larry Tingen; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, 5056 NC Hwy 22 N., Franklinville, NC 27248.
The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to Mary York, Carolyn Gaines, Ava Brower, Irene Ritter, the staff of Randolph Health Home Health and Hospice of Randolph County for the compassionate care shown to Lula throughout her declining health.
