

She was a life-long faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and served in many positions throughout the years. She had great faith in the Lord and believed in the power-of-prayer.
A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 2:30pm at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 7103 Sandy Creek Church Road, Staley, NC with the Reverend Todd Moore and Reverend Alton Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 6pm – 8pm at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty, NC.
She was born in Randolph County on February 7, 1930 and was the youngest of 11 siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents; James Boyd and Dora Kivett Butler; her siblings, Vallie Ray, Ruth Land, Christine Shears, Lee Aiello, Lucy Montclair, George Butler, E.D. Butler, Frank Butler, and Frances McKinney; also her son-in-law, John Mills.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 65 years, Howard “Hap” Cheek. Also surviving and forever grateful for her love and blessings are her three children: Ronald Cheek (Jan) of Liberty, Christina Jobe (Tommy) of Raleigh, Mary Margaret Mills of Yardley, PA; three grandchildren: Jason Cheek (Carrie) of Pleasant Garden, Kristy Jobe of Franklinton, Lauren Brewer (Daniel) of Liberty; one step-grandchild: Patrice Jobe Bagwell (Benjamin) of Clayton; four great-grandchildren: Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, and Hannah Cheek; and three step-great-grandchildren: Reagan, Jillian, and Camryn Bagwell. She was very excited to be having her 5th great-grandchild, “Baby Brewer,” due in a few weeks; her sister Virginia “Jennie” Fonzo (Carl) of Liberty, sisters-in-law Ann Keck Butler of Julian, Ruth Curtis Butler of Burlington, and brother-in-law Ralph Cheek (Grace) of Liberty. Margaret was also loved her many nieces and nephews.
Those who knew her were always delighted by her contagious laugh and generous spirit. She loved growing pumpkins and tomatoes so she could make pumpkin pies and share the bounty of her garden with others, especially her “Encore” friends. She also had a special love and lifelong bond with her high school girlfriends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 7103 Sandy Creek Church Rd., Staley, NC 27355.
