He was born in Chicago, IL on January 20, 1951, the son of Charles John Mastro and Marion Irene Mertes, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on November 10, 2010, in Climax, N.C. to Kate Stalter-Mastro, who survives him.
He is also survived by son, Peter Mastro and wife Andrea, of Playa Del Ray, CA and daughter, Kelly Fleming and husband Joe of Pittsgrove, NJ, step-children, Sandra Sanflippo and husband, Steven of Hazlet, NJ, Donnie Stalter of Keansburg, NJ, and Brian Stalter and wife Andrea of Howell, NJ.
Pete also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Joseph-Tyler, Julia, Valerie, Alex, Steven, Rachel, Rebecca, Nate, Jude, Mia, one great-grandchild, Sage, siblings, Joseph Mastro, Richard and Maxine Mastro, Charlotte and Nick Tryfonopoulos, Mary and Stan Sendra, Anne and Al Wiorkowski, James and Claudia Mastro, and Charles and Sigata Mastro and many nieces and nephews.
Pete’s smile, laughter and wit brought joy to many. He enjoyed gardening, music and spending time with friends and family who particularly loved his sense of humor and his kindness! Pete found much delight in his painting and his art was presented in many galleries and adorns the walls of homes across the country. When he wasn’t dirty in the garden or getting creative in the Mastro Studio, Pete was ready to offer a helping hand, he always had time to help anyone in need. He especially loved to be with the love of his life, Kate. The two of them had such a good time together and he never missed an opportunity to show her how much he loved her with a kiss, a squeeze or gentle “I love you Kate”.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Food Bank at Julian United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 35, Julian, N.C. 27283 in Pete’s honor.
