Bob was the son of the late O.J. King and Maude Wall King and was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Juanita Allred King; sisters, Margaret Merrill and her husband, Chuck Merrill, Marjorie Routh and her husband, Sylvan Routh; sister-in-law, Doris King; and niece, Donna Routh Williams.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Kathy Rollins and son-in-law Joey Rollins of Randleman; granddaughters Jenny Munro and husband, Mike, Taylor Hayes and husband, Patrick of Greensboro; great granddaughter, Georgia Katherine Hayes and great grandson, Griffin James Munro; brother, Oscar King of Liberty; “adopted” daughter, best buddy and caregiver, Martha Hall; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bob was born and raised in Grays Chapel and a proud graduate of Grays Chapel School, Class of 1948, of which he was president. He served his beloved country in the United States Marine Corps, 1951-1954 in Amphibious Reconnaissance, spending most of his time served on a submarine in the Mediterranean Sea. He went on to work at Amp Inc. for 25 years.
Bob was a faithful member of Worthville United Methodist Church. He was an avid gardener and wood worker, always growing vegetables to share with family and friends. Many of his hand crafted pieces he shared with others and used a lot to add more beauty to his yard and home and as gifts to his family. He loved the wildlife around his home. In his last months of life, he eagerly watched for his neighbor, Chad Crozier’s homing pigeons to fly each morning. This brought him much joy. Bob himself loved flying, obtaining a student’s flying license. But his greatest joys were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Papaw Bob” never missed a birthday party, school event, ballgame, cheerleading competition, “Trick or Treat”, Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter celebration. He also loved NASCAR and attended many races during the 70s and 80s. And he and daughter, Kathy, loved to boast that they traveled across the state many times, attending every Randleman Tigers football game through all 3 of their state championship seasons. He was an honest, descent, soft spoken man who truly lived the Golden Rule.
