Judy O'Hara, a humble and devout servant of God, peacefully departed this life on November 1, 2023, at her home in Lighthouse Point, Florida. Born on August 3, 1941, in Chicago, she was a cherished daughter of Clara and Leonard Marschall. Judy graced the lives of many as a solid and steadfast mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend.
She is survived by her children, Bridget (Russ) Happney, Michael (Veronica) O'Hara, and Annie O'Hara; her grandchildren, Logan (Joe) Gaule, Kyle Happney, Trevor, Myles and Abigail O'Hara, and Kalin and Nevan Badgley; and her great-granddaughter, Sophia Happney. Her children and several of her grandchildren surrounded her with love in her last days.
A pillar of unwavering faith, she found solace and strength in her devotion to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. For an incredible fifty years, she joyfully served her beloved community of St. Paul's, drawing immeasurable peace and joy from her profound connection to God and His people. She especially adored and respected her fellow daily mass goers and her St. Paul's Prayer Group.
Judy tirelessly volunteered her time and energy to various organizations, embodying the essence of love and care. Her presence was known early on in Sorority, Girl Scouts, and Garden Club, leading her into Soroptimist, Exchange Club, Book Clubs, Investment Clubs, and her life-long friends in Girls Night Out (GNO), currently known as Girls Lunch Out (GLO). Judy's smile lit up the room and her gentle laughter brought joy to countless hearts. She was a good friend. Though she may not have possessed the gift of telling a joke, she reveled in the good cheer of others, finding delight in the shared moments of laughter and camaraderie. She kept her mind sharp by completing difficult crossword puzzles daily and enjoyed a good game of solitaire.
In her professional journey, Judy found her true calling in advocating for the welfare of seniors. Over two decades ago, she embarked on a path of service, working diligently as a Senior Advocate with the Lighthouse Point Police Department. Through her unwavering dedication and compassionate care, she became a beacon of hope and support for homebound seniors. Recognizing the need for individualized attention, Judy established a private business, serving as a fiduciary to safeguard the financial stability and personal dignity of her valued clients. She worked with an amazing group of care providers who, in turn, provided expert and tender care to her. The family is especially grateful to Janette, Opal, Annette, Cammeil, and Marci – affectionately referred to as her "girls." You are loved beyond words. Everyone close to her will miss her signature telephone sign-off of "Love ya."
Judy's commitment to living a life of purpose extended beyond her professional and volunteer endeavors. She approached every task and event with a steadfast commitment to excellence, and she would let you know if you missed the mark. Her insistence on doing things right became a testament to her character. At the end of the day you could find her relaxing in front of a BBC series with a glass of white wine, always with twelve ice cubes. She taught her children the value of a job well done and that education and lifelong learning will take you far. She will be desperately missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to honor Judy's life and faith. This sacred gathering will take place on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 12 noon at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, at 2700 NE 36 Street, Lighthouse Point, FL.
