Roy E. Ferraro, 98, of Pompano Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday, December 13th, 2022. Roy was born to parents Angelo Ferraro and Teresa Ciminello in Long Island, New York on February 28th, 1924. His brothers Stephen and Arnold, both predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Marjorie Ferraro to whom he was deeply devoted.
Roy was a native of Floral Park, Long Island, New York. He served for three years in the Field Artillery in Fort Bragg, N.C. and France during WWII, after which he was honorably discharged. Subsequently, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hofstra College on Long Island, N.Y. His professional life evolved in the clothing industry following in the footprints of his grandmother who died in the Shirtwaist Factory fire in 1911 in Manhattan. He worked for the Mutual Buying Syndicate in N.Y. which serviced over one hundred major department stores throughout the U.S., first as an assistant buyer, later as merchandise manager of several departments. Ultimately in 1962, he founded Jamar Corporation to manufacture women’s garments with a showroom on Madison Avenue in N.Y. and with a factory that employed 250 people, selling to major department stores and chain retailers.
He and his wife Jeanne retired in Florida after a lifetime in New York. Ten years after Jeanne’s death in 1987, he met and happily married Marjorie with whom he traveled extensively and spent wonderful summers in North Carolina. A Utube video that can be found by googling “CRYC member spotlight, Roy and Marjorie Ferraro” provides a beautiful insight to the happiness Roy enjoyed in his marriages.
Roy was a good, kind man, and a man of deep religious faith and conviction that gave him great comfort in his long life. He took pride in his Italian heritage and Italian culinary traditions, taking great delight in his creations which he joyfully shared with family. He was a proud New Yorker surviving and prospering in a competitive industry, touting that “if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.”
Roy will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews and their families: Donna Ferraro and her husband John Gardner; Stephanie Ferraro Delaney and her husband Peter Delaney and their three children, Grant, Stella and Max; Lisa Kaht and her husband Jeffrey Kaht and their two sons, Kevin and Michael; Cliff Ferraro and his wife Louise D’Angelo and their children Sabrina, Steven, and Cliff and Louise’s grandchildren, Desiree, William, Angelo and Katalina; the children of Arnold Ferraro, Jr. (deceased), Eddie, William, Janessa, Jared and Bella, the daughter of Jackie Ferraro (deceased).
Roy will also be missed by his cousins and stepdaughters, as well as a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.
